Module transdisciplinaire proposé par les ateliers de Design textile, Architecture d’intérieur et Design industrie de l’ENSAV La Cambre dans le cadre du projet de coopération bilatérale “Culture-Patrimoine-Tourisme” 2019-2023.
Pendant un voyage de 10 jours au Bénin, j’ai recueilli les signes et motifs traditionnels afin de créer une base de donnée. J’ai du également créer une signature pour les tissus et réaliser la conception éditorial du journal de bord de ce projet.

(fr) Le présent projet veut engager la création comme moteur collaboratif entre La Cambre et l’AVPTTA (Association pour la Valorisation et la Promotion du Tissage Traditionnel d’Abomey) ainsi que l’EPA (École du Patrimoine africain) au Bénin. Le module trandisciplinaire s’inscrit dans un programme de 5 ans construit comme un laboratoire qui donne aux artisans, aux étudiant.e.s designers et architectes, l’opportunité d’investir les valeurs que véhicule la production du textile: un vecteur de civilisation, d’art et de culture, de technique, une ressource économique cruciale. Les ateliers qui abritent l’AVPTTA et d’autres tisserands ont été spécifiquement conçus, au Palais du Roi Agonglo, pour accueillir l’activité du tissage : ils apparaissent comme un site idéal à étudier, investir et modéliser dans cette perspective.
Ce module consiste à construire une proposition originale à mettre en œuvre avec les artisans et les étudiants en cherchant à :
⁃ découvrir et intégrer le contexte matériel et historique du lieu ainsi que les conditions de travail des tisserands
- relever les spécificités architecturales du site pour optimiser certains paramètres en bonne intelligence avec l'usage des ateliers et leur perspective patrimoniale
- développer une proposition textile en collaboration avec les artisans
(en) This project aims to initiate creation as a collaborative engine between an art and design school in Brussels and AVPTTA (Association for the Valorization and Promotion of Traditional Weaving in Abomey) as well as EPA (School of African Heritage ) in Benin . The cross-disciplinary module is part of a 5-year program built as a laboratory that gives artisans, students, designers and architects the opportunity to invest in the values that textile production conveys: a vector of civilization, art and culture, technique, a crucial economic resource. The workshops that house AVPTTA and other fabrics have been specially designed, at the King Agonglo Palace, to host the weaving activity: they appear to be an ideal site to study, invest and model in this perspective.
This module consists of building an original proposal to be implemented with the craftsmen and students, seeking to:
- discover and integrate the material and historical context of the place as well as the working conditions of the weavers
- identify the architectural specificities of the site to optimize certain parameters in good understanding with the use of the production area and their heritage perspective
- develop a textile proposal in collaboration with artisans
